Controller

Data categories and purposes

LifeSignal processes the following data to run check-ins, observer relationships, and notifications:

  • An anonymous Firebase user ID created on first launch; LifeSignal has no accounts with email addresses or passwords
  • Optional display name and user role, plus check-in timestamps, streak and progress counters, and reminder settings
  • Observer records you add (display name, phone number, optional email), including an emergency contact picked from your device contacts
  • When you pick an emergency contact, LifeSignal reads only the selected contact's name, phone number, and email — it does not read or upload your address book
  • Device tokens for push notification delivery, stored with the user account
  • Crash reports and error diagnostics via Sentry

LifeSignal processes this data to provide the service you request — check-ins, observer relationships, and notifications — under Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR; the same applies to voluntary tip-jar purchases. Crash reporting and error diagnostics via Sentry rest on the legitimate interest in keeping the app stable and secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Recipients and processors

  • Google Ireland / Firebase: anonymous authentication, Cloud Firestore database, Cloud Functions, and Firebase Cloud Messaging for notification delivery; Firestore data is stored in the EUR3 (Europe) multi-region
  • Sentry: crash reports and error diagnostics
  • Apple: StoreKit processes voluntary tip-jar purchases; LifeSignal receives no payment details

Storage and duration

App data lives on the device and in Cloud Firestore (EUR3, Europe) so check-ins, observer relationships, and notifications work. Data is kept until you delete your account; scheduled cleanup jobs additionally remove expired invites and orphaned accounts.

Push notifications

Daily check-in reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device at the time you choose. Push notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging are used to alert your observers about missed check-ins; delivery requires a device token, which is stored with the user account and deleted with it.

Deletion

Settings includes a Delete Account action. It deletes the anonymous Firebase account, which automatically removes the user document with all subcollections (observers, subjects, alerts, check-ins), open invites, and references to the account in other users' data. Deleting the app removes local data from the device.

Where legal requirements are met, data subjects may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and complaint to a data protection supervisory authority.
